How to calculate Claude token cost
For each category, multiply tokens by its USD price per million tokens, then divide by 1,000,000. Add input, output, cache reads and cache writes. Each token should appear in one input category only.
Monthly estimate = cost per request × requests per day × active days
A $0.04 request, worked through
With Claude Sonnet 5.5, 10,000 uncached input tokens cost $0.02 and 2,000 output tokens cost $0.02. That is $0.04 per request, $4 for 100 identical requests, and $120 over 30 active days. Use the Quick estimate preset to reproduce this example.
A growing conversation sends more context on later requests. Use representative billed usage rather than treating every message as the same size.
Claude token cost questions
Is this my Claude Pro or Max bill?
This estimates API token charges. A subscription price, usage limit and extra-usage arrangement are separate; this tool does not predict remaining plan capacity.
Where do I find token counts?
Use the usage object in your API response or your provider’s usage report. Enter uncached input, cache-read and cache-creation tokens separately. The output count should match the billed output field.
Can I convert a word count into tokens?
Tokenization depends on model, language and content. Code, punctuation and long identifiers change the ratio. Use actual token counts for a budget; this calculator does not tokenize pasted text.
Does this include tool or provider fees?
The result covers the token categories shown. Add separate search/tool charges, taxes, provider fees or discounts to your budget. Custom rates let you use your contracted token prices.
